Do We Need Traffic Lights Along Jalan Desa Utama?

30th July 2012

Dear Residents,

I am sure many residents of Phase 1 are literally seeing red each time you come out of your homes heading toward Jalan Desa Utama besides the TM building opposite Desa Business Center.

All had been well for many of us until Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) set up traffic lights at three-way intersection linking Jalan Desa Utama and Jalan Desa Bakti.

We the residents here have to put up with traffic snarls, especially during the peak hours from 7am to 9am, 12noon to 2pm and from 5pm to 8pm because of the traffic lights and no proper traffic study by DBKL,

During these times, you can see 20 to 30 cars backed up in the traffic jam on both side of Jalan Desa Utama and Jalan Desa Bakti. Cars coming out of Desa Business Center are held back inside the parking and some grumble that a plan short trip of less than 15 minutes end up to be more than 15 minutes due to the back flow of traffic which resulted in them paying RM 1.00 for parking.

Why ruin our quality of life and give us unnecessary hardship? Many of us are having a difficult time coming out of our homes to go to work in the morning or reach our homes after a hard day's work because we are stuck in traffic jams created by traffic lights which the majority of us do not want or need at that spot.

We at TDP1RA feels City Hall should remove the traffic lights and install speed bumps, thermoplastic lines and place more signboards in the area to advice motorists to slow down when crossing this intersection.

Therefore we are seeking residents comment about the necessity of the traffic lights before writing to DBKL. Please do send your comment to: tdp1ra@gmail.com.

We are looking forward your cooperation to serve you better.

Yours Sincerely,

Wong Chee How
President

  1. I strongly agree with the proposal to remove the traffic lights. It is absolutely crazy to install so many traffic lights, especially along Jalan Desa Utama. As it is, we already have many speed bumps on the same stretch of road and I am sure most residents agree that this has already slowed down the traffic. The traffic lights have also added more stress when driving around Taman Desa as a journey that usually takes me 5 mins can unnecessarily become around 15-20 mins. This is a typical example of how tax payers' money are often wasted which can be better utilised elsewhere. If DBKL truly care about the welfare of Taman Desa residents, they should be more engaging with our community and seek our feedback prior to such nonsensical installation of traffic lights.

  2. The traffic lights at the 3 way intersection can be improved if north bound traffic on Jalan Desa Utama , by keeping left , is allowed to go straight without stopping ,DBKL need to re-draw the lines for 2 lanes for this purpose .

    1. Dear Mr. Hoon,

It looks like not possible due to the presence of stalls and parking lots along the road. Unless DBKL can find and alternative to it by widening the road!!!

  3. It is crazy! I used those roads very often and just today I was held back inside the parking lots for more than 20 minutes just to buy a packet of rice for my daughter to be sent to her school during her lunchtime.

As a result, I was late and there goes her lunch! I hope that something will be done soon and I strongly agree to the removal of the traffic lights ASAP!
