Freak Thunderstorm Wreaked Havoc in Taman Desa

A freak thunderstorm wreaked havoc in Taman Desa on 25th Jan 2012. The situation in Taman Desa looked like "a war zone", with fallen trees and branches blocking access roads.

Exits out of Taman Desa through Bukit Desa to Jalan Klang Lama, Jalan Desa Utama, Jalan Desa, Jalan Desa Bahagia and Jalan Desa Jaya were blocked by the fallen trees. Many cars damaged by falling trees. Fruit stalls along Jalan Desa Utama were wrecked. Many houses roof tiles were damaged by the storm. Part of the roof of some houses in Phase 1 flew off at the height of the storm and fell onto other houses resulting damages to the other houses as well.

Power supply to many houses in Taman Desa was also disrupted temporarily. Houses along the following roads had no power supply between 3 to 24 hours.

Jalan Desa Setia
Jalan Desa Jaya
Jalan Desa Ria
Jalan Desa Bahagia
Jalan Desa Murni
Lorong Desa Murni 2
And certain part of Jalan Desa Ria 2

Three(3) TDP1RA committee members were on zero ground from 6.45pm up to 3.30am coordinating with  BOMBA, Civil Defence, DBKL, Telekom, TNB and also YB Teresa Koh(via phone and sms) to organize the rescue and clearing works. In fact up 6.00 am they were monitor the situation via communication with the security supervisor on duty. All entry points into Phase 1 were kept open to facilitate the recovering and clearing works. Puan Zaleha and En. Rostan, our security supervisor played an important role in coordinating the rescue and clearing works. Kudos to all who scarified their time, effort and sleep to assist during the havoc.
